This is a review of the Mammut Barryvox Avalanche Transceiver. This transceivers gives recreational backcountry users the best value in an avalanche transceiver with its performance, simplicity, range, comfort, and price.

The Mammut Barryvox stands out as a beacon suitable for users at various skill levels, though it may require a bit more practice for novices, especially during bracketing. However, its performance shines through, making it a favorite among advanced users and some professionals.

During a single victim search, the directional arrows provide guidance, though they might not be as precise as other models, particularly within five meters. Nevertheless, the audible tones aid in staying on track during the search.

With a speedy processor, the Barryvox excels, especially under 10 meters and during bracketing. Its straightforward graphic display simplifies the search process, though bracketing might feel less intuitive for less experienced users.

In multiple burial scenarios, the Barryvox performs well, flagging beacons effectively. Its range of 70 meters and search strip width add to its reliability in the field.

Although it lacks many extra features, it includes useful functions like Revert to Send mode and Group Check mode, enhancing safety during rescues.

The Barryvox’s interface is user-friendly, transitioning smoothly between modes, and its compact design ensures comfortable carrying.

While it requires two hands for operation, this prevents accidental mode changes. Additionally, it’s worth noting that it’s the simpler counterpart to the Barryvox S, offering a solid mid-level option with ample features.

Though priced higher than some basic beacons, the Barryvox’s performance justifies its cost, making it a reliable choice for both beginners and professionals alike.
